THE ILLUSTRATED GUIDE TO Ph.D.

Hey fellow bloggers and random surfers , just like you I was browsing around on the internet aimlessly searching about random things and I stumbled onto this. This idea is so simple that it's bloody useful to explain students what Ph.D. really is. Just wanted to share this with you. The person who came up with this explanation is Prof.Matt Might http://matt.might.net/articles/phd-school-in-pictures/"

  • Imagine a circle that contains all of Human Knowledge

  • By the time you finish Elementary School you'll know a little.

  • By the time you finish High School you'll know a little more.

  • With a Bachelors degree you gain a specialty

  • A Masters Degree deepens the Specialty

  • Reading research papers takes you to the edge of human knowledge

  • Once you are at the boundary you focus.

  • You push the boundary for a few years

  • Until oneday, the boundary gives way

  • And, the dent you've made is called Ph.D.

  • Of course the World looks different to you now.

  • So, don't forget the bigger picture.

KEEP PUSHING
